Rigid Flex PCB

Rigid-Flexible PCB’s are boards that incorporate both a standard rigid board with flexible attachments. These designs are most common when an end user and or designer needs to have components on both sides of the PCB and or needs high density interconnects which only a standard rigid board can support, and still incorporating flexible portions to the design. These designs tend to be the most complex and difficult PCBs to manufacture and only a handful of manufacturers are capable of making these boards reliably. The most important part of manufacturing these designs is having a very thorough manufacturing engineering/methods engineering meeting on the design. The front end work will exponentially pay-off in terms of quality and repeatability in manufacturing of these PCB’s because of the many different ways these boards can be manufactured.
